I love this idea! Crawfish Pie eats a wide variety of foods, so I think the new foods will go over well when we start learning about other countries and cultures. I am so excited just thinking about it!

Such a creative idea! I love ways that we can make history come a live.

You could also recreate an open air market with each "vendor" selling a foreign food for tasting. The vendor tells their patrons about their background (country or origin, customs etc). Kind of like a fun oral report. : )

We have a few up, and a few tucked away that we use. Some things I found helpful, not having wall space -- placemats that are maps. The kids can pull them out, look at them, etc. We also found placemat sized blank maps at a teacher supply store, so they can use those for map activities.

Then we have a world map shower curtain, hung up behind our regular curtains in the school/dining room. Not tons of detail, but enough for the big picture.

We use Uncle Josh's Outline Maps for printing maps for them to label, but I love your idea to google maps for examples. Thanks!

We will definitely be doing these, thanks for taking the search work out for me! YEA! I LOVE doing a "first day of _______ party" and I of course learned that from you. SO, we will be participating and having some friends over that afternoon. I am lovin' the donut snack! I also may make another tree like I did when Caleb was only 2. I traced his hand onto red, orange, and yellow paper and cut them out. Then I cut out a tree shape and used his hands as leaves. It turned out wonderful and I hang it up every year for this season. I think I may make one with he and Georgia's hands! (certainly don't want her to feel completely left out in the future) :0)

OK, this was truly amazing. Our second time to "get close"! Great pictures! We took some video and might even have a certain friend "looking somewhat frightful"! The kids and I will definitely return some morning to watch them come home.
